Shri Sonal Bajaj belongs to 1998 batch of Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Indirect Taxes). He has a B.Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Masters in Nuclear Engineering and Technology both from IIT Kanpur.

During his career of 28 years, Shri Sonal Bajaj has served in various capacities across multiple segments in the Central Government in the field of Customs, Central Excise, Intelligence & Investigations as well as Tax Research. This was followed by a decade long deputation in Cabinet Secretariat, including assignments in the Indian High Commission in Canberra (Australia) for three years and the North Eastern region of India for three years.

Prior to assuming charges of Director (Finance) NPCIL, Shri Sonal Bajaj was posted as Commissioner of Customs at Nhava Sheva, Mumbai Customs Zone II for over three years and a short stint of six months in CESTAT, Mumbai.

Shri Sonal Bajaj, IRS (C&IT) (1998), has assumed the charge for the post of Director (Finance), Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) on 29th December 2025.
