Independent Director
Dr. B. Venkatraman is a former Distinguish Scientist of DAE. He has done M.Sc., PGDCA and Ph.d.
As Director, Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR).—DAE’s second-largest R&D institution—he steered programmes spanning fast-reactor technology, fuel-cycle facilities, advanced materials, health & safety, and complex multi-institutional initiatives. He successfully coordinated and steered two landmark national milestones:
(1) FBTR attaining its rated capacity of 40 MWe for the first time in its history and sustaining over 200 EFPD; and
(2) Hot commissioning of the Demonstration Fuel Reprocessing Plant (DFRP) - the world’s only dual-capability industrial reprocessing facility - culminating in its dedication to the nation by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on 02 January 2024.
In his career spanning more than 39 years, Dr. Venkatraman has demonstrated exceptional administrative acumen and governance capability in leading large, multidisciplinary scientific and industrial organizations of national importance.
Dr Venkatraman has gained immense experience in project management and related activities through his serving as a Member of the Chairman’s Advisory Committee on Project Monitoring (CAC-PM) for reviewing projects above Rs.500 crore of the Department of Atomic Energy. His contributions as Chairperson of BIS MTD-21 (NDT), member of AERB/NPCIL committees, and India’s representative in ISO/TC-85 further reflects his grounding in governance frameworks, compliance systems, standardisation processes, and international best practices. Collectively, these roles underscore his proven abilities in institution-building, administrative leadership, and strategic oversight of complex national technology and infrastructure missions.
He has also held position of CMD (In-charge), BHAVINI from September 2021 to November 2022.
Dr. B Venkatraman has been appointed as Independent Director on NPCIL Board w.e.f. 08.07.2026.
