- Kudankulam Site
Kudankulam site is situated on the shore of Gulf of Mannar and is located near the South-Eastern tip of India which is 4 km south of Kudankulam village, Radhapuram Taluka, Tirunelveli District of Tamil Nadu State. Two units are under constructions & four more units are approved by Government of India for Kudankulam site.
- Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) 1 & 2 (2x 1000 MWe, VVER, under advanced stage of construction)
- Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) 3 to 6 (4 x1000 MWe, VVER approval is granted by Govt. of India)
For KKNPP 1 & 2, an Environmental Clearance (EC) was granted by MoEF, New Delhi in 1989 (revalidated in 2001 by MoEF) based on the Environmental Appraisal data submitted by NPCIL in 1988 in line with the requirements of Environment Protection Act-(EPA), 1986.
Environmental Clearance was obtained for KKNPP 3 to 6 from Ministry of Environment and Forest in the year 2008 after organising Public Hearing and review of Environmental Impact Assessment Report by MoEF, New Delhi as per Environmental (Protection) Act, 1986.
MoEF also granted CRZ clearance for KKNPP 3 to 6 in the year 2012 based on the marine ecological studies and updated EIA in line with CRZ Notification -2011.
